How do I start a new team project based on an old deleted team project?

tfsdeleteproject states deletes project it's associated version control fearful meant trully removed version history. happy find out "delete" action on team project root directory , still able go , old files etc. great.

how start new team project based on old deleted team project? know can branch old version in arbitrary way, can project creation wizard can not handle this.

i cannot this:

tf undelete $/olddeletedproject

or

tf branch $/oldundeletedproject  $/resurrectedproject /version:50

as these operations return error message:

tf10169: unsupported pending change attempted on team project folder $/olddeltedproject.  use project creation wizard in team explorer create project or
the tfsdeleteproject tool delete one.

our current subversion repository has 250 independent projects on 2.5 years. continuing @ rate hit 500 project maximum, think delete old inactive projects keep below number, feasible if can resurrect old information.

a related question, sharepoint site document data gone when use tfsdeleteproject.exe? if so, kind of project archiving steps need preform save committed sharepoint documents etc. future reference before running tfsdeleteproject?

first off, i'm not sure strategy work.  is, don't think exceeding 500 team projects deleting old ones has been tested.  there few things cannot done within single team project, if you're bumping against limit (which perf/scaling problem, btw, not hard limit) first suggestion explore ways more work inside each tp use deletion.

to answer specific question, use /newname.  tf undel $/deletedproject /newname:$/activeproject/subdir
