Difference between Shrinking a DB and a FILE


hi,

what difference between shrinking db of file.

when select db shrink not shrink files in it.

because when select files shrink not prompt me with
a specific file.

so confused why sql server 2k5 asks if need shrink db or file

tnx

shrink database shrinks files in database, shrink file shrinks 1 specific file in database.

the way data files(.mdfs) , log files(.ldfs) shrink different, should read in books on line it.

SQL server replication error Cannot find the dbo or user defined function........
