HELP! 401 Authentication - Nothing Is Working!

hi all,

i've installed fresh copy of ssrs 2008 first time (sql server 2008 express sp2). straight install. no changes. , of course, doesn't work! able report manager page, after removing rswindowsnegotiate , rswindowsntlm rsreportserver.config file , changing rswindowsbasic. don't know why worked, did.

but can't authenticate web service. keep getting 401 errors, , nothing seems work. @ wits end here. here have tried:

fyi, using windows xp sp2, , vs 2008.

1) changed rsreportserver.config file uses "rswindowsbasic".

2) have opened computer management tool, , in 6 sql server groups, have added "administrators", "nt authority\system", "aspnet", , "nt authority\network service".

3) execution account in ssrs config "[machine]\localsystem".

4) report server service account "local system".

5) on "services" dialog, rs running "local system".

6) rs code is: rs.credentials = system.net.credentialcache.defaultcredentials;

i assumed means runs aspnet on development machine vs 2008.

i have read , re-read can find on site. can't think of else left do. keep reading same suggestions on , over. haven't done? why isn't working?

please give me new try. don't understand wrong. i've added can think of group "sqlserverreportserveruser$dnb01$msrs10_50.sqlexpress" , other sql server groups. there other group can create , add to?

thanks,

michael

hi michael,

make sure user account being used added following security policy
access computer network
policy found in gpedit.msc computer configurations-->windows settings-->security settings-->local policies-->user rights assignments
adding user policy

if issue persists, detailed error message error logs.

thanks,
jerry
