Unable to install default instance of SQL Server 2008 Express
i trying install default instance of sql server express on machine running windows xp.
when selected "default", instance name field got grayed out, instance id still showed "sqlexpress". after installation completed, realized instance installed in fact "sqlexpress".
i un-installed , tried re-installed using default , "mssqlserver" instance id, , still installed "sqlexpress".
i gave , decided install sqlexpress instance, install default instance afterwards, , uninstall sqlespress.
when tried install default instance, i'm getting error:
"the sql server instance 'sqlexpress' has instance id 'sqlexpress' different specified instance id 'mssqlserver'. specifying more 1 instance id same sql server instance not supported."
this has happened in 2 different computers, wonder if problem installation, not computers.
any vastly appreciated.
