Adding new datafile
hi,
i want add 1 more data file user database growing rapidly daily, , want add data file default table space without limiting file growth, , 1 more main concern system under merge replication.

by table space (more of oracle term) presume mean filegroup. agree in part jeff, although suggest :-
1. there scope housing second file on second drive array/lun provide added io throughput - dependant upon storage controller bandwidth, storage subsystem setup etc.
2. in high volume circumstances there can benefits having multiple files overcome contention allocation pages (e.g. pfs, gam , sgam) issue in tempdb due frequent allocation , deallocation occurs in it.
3. if running enterprise edition, should contemplate having separate filegroup user objects due possibilities piecemeal restore , partial availability.
