SQL Server 2008 Developer and Standard installation fails with Installer error code 2331


hello all,

this issue posted @ connect log files.

i discovered existing installation of sql server 2008 developer had stopped working on developer workstation when dev app unable connect database. further scrutiny showed server not starting when machine booted. sql server management studio gave error not load mmc. decided copy datafiles , uninstall/reinstall. have not been able reinstall product.

first error appeared related corrupt event log. recreated event log files using technique posted here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172156.

encountered following error , have not been able proceed after @ least dozen tries, including downloading iso image both sql 2008 developer , standard.

    the installer has encountered unexpected error installing package. may
    indicate problem package. error code 2331

error occurs @ following installer progress line:

     install_sql_common_core_cpu32_action : do_loginstallstart_32. record install start in windows event log

after clicking ok, install proceeds , error follows:

     following error has occurred:
     service 'sqlbrowser' start request failed.
     click 'retry' retry failed action, or click 'cancel' cancel action...

error occurs @ following installer progress line:

     sqlbrowserconfigaction_install_startup_cpu32

after install runs course, components installed , others not. sqlbrowser service appears installed attempts start manually services mmc error saying started , stopped. strangely, somehow windows installer service stopped after sql install fails.

have lost few days error. appreciated.

system config is:
hp dc7100
windows xp professional sp3
visual studio 2005 team system
visual studio 2008 team system
sql installer x86, english

hi rwonthego,

if have tried install both developer , standard editions of sql server 2008, problem might occur because partly installed instance not include edition of sql server 2008 trying install. setup program cannot determine version of sql server 2008 install. avoid issue, may need uninstall previous instance of sql server 2008 before try install again on same server.

SQL server replication error Cannot find the dbo or user defined function........

Admin Permissions
