Difference between 'simulator' and 'emulator'?

why phone 8 emulator referred 'emulator' while windows store app testing called 'simulator?

cap'n

they different things.

you cannot run windows phone apps on windows system, emulator provided runs emulated version of windows phone hardware , os.

windows store apps run on windows 8, don't have emulator. different resolutions , touch input simulator fancy remote desktop app connects local system , simulates touch, etc.

if want test windows store apps on arm need physical windows rt device.
