Periodic server crashes on DB server, no cause?

we've got 2 db servers, connected san via fiberchannel connection.

we've had periodic (1-2) crashes week off on, have become more frequent.

the thing running on servers sql server (the main app). behavior typically see before crash no additional db connections allowed, our hosting company's alert systems kick in, saying can't ping machines. can rdp machines, way recover them hard reboot.

originally hosting company thought disk contention within san, separated out log files different physical space, caused crashing stop 3 weeks. we're in same scenario, neither us, nor hosting company can come cause.

these physical db servers, not virtual. can provide specs if you'd like, we're pretty out of options!!

this sql server 2008 r2, service packs applied of last month.

help!

thanks,
chris

sql server can never make your os go hang (you have mentioned ping doesnt work when there issue) indicates problem outside sql server.

even if default max server memory there not issues (worst case if have max server memory , min server memory same value , use lpim server may go very slow and not hang ever). more details on http://mssqlwiki.com/2013/04/22/max-server-memory-do-i-need-to-configure/

review eventlogs errors during time of hang. if dont find info in event logs follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927069 and collect crash dump , open case microsoft windows support.
