TFS2008: Dual Server Deployment Setup Error during installation of TFS


 

i'm testing out tfs2008 on our hyper-v environment

 

i able successful setup single server deployment initial testing. when run through dual server deployment setup simulate our production setup encountered issue on system health check before running tfs sp1 itself.

 

here's current environment:

 

application tier:

-windows 2008 ent x86 hyperv

-iis 7.0

-sharepoint 3.0 sp1

 

database tier

-windows 2008 ent x64 hyperv

-iis 7.0

-sql 2005 ent + sp2 x64 - services installed

 

i did customizations thing reports point our database tier since db services must installed there.

 

when reach installation of tfs, saw error:

 

the system health check has detected problem cause setup fail.

 

description

the sql server analysis services assemblies not installed on application tier.

 

workaround / remedy

the sql server analysis services assemblies not installed on team foundation server applicaiton tier. must install them team foundation server function. can install sql server tools on team foundation server assemblies installed. please install version matches analysis services sql server version, or later.

 

i have check our database tier , sql services running, firewall turn off on both tiers.

 

my question how resolve issue?

but didn't resolve current issue.

p.s. quick unrelated question planning deploy using hyperv because don’t believe hyperv/sql 2005 combination officially supported, , may cause problems down line.

 

going tfs poc dual-server deployment sql services (reports, db, in data tier)

 

this did not resolve issue - when run using default dual-server installation (the reports in app tier) - lines above shown , default installation works , installed

but able solve issue in weird way.

 

1.) first install, reports on app tier (other prereqs installed)

2.) modify msiproperty.ini point reports on data tier

3.) install tfs sp1 -- installation proceeded

4.) uninstall reports on app tier

5.) tested on client through team explorer reports still working -- check data tier reports configuration tool configured tfs

p.s. sql2005 on hyper-v not supported? production use our production sql still physical. tfs on hyper-v supported?

SQL server replication error Cannot find the dbo or user defined function........
