How to utilize the maximum capacity for the SQL Server 2012 Std ?

hi all,

i have got 1 big rack server hp dl 580 g7 equipped follows:

i'm going install sql server 2012 standard edition sp1 consolidate existing old sql server 2005 - 2008 r2 enterprise databases.

how can ensure above hardware specification can utilized in full accommodates 90-100+ database single box ? can deploy 4x named instance of sql server database standard ?

hello,

there few things think before stepping production:

1. hbas rated bandwidth? how compare violin rated bandwidth?

2. how hbas setup? how mpio driver configured hbas?

3. maximum throughput of processors , memory? how compare hba throughput , storage throughput?

4. tested amount of bandwidth when stressing storage subsystem? close calculated value?

when dealing consolidation, it's not number of instance if there need. example, if there sharepoint farm, make it's own instance , set processor usage on manually (as others) no other instance stomps on parallelism (sharepoint should be set disabled parallelism). there security need create new instance?

this heavily depends on size , usage of databases. if 100+ databases small business unit level databases few users, sure might fine or overkill... if it's 100 dw sized databases or highly oltp, there may different ways needed setup instance , files... key here depends , requires testing.

i'm sorry isn't more of "here how it", each installation little different depending on needs. general need of (how read it) "i need 100 seemingly random , unknown usage, size, , workload databases assumed on same instance of sql server need consolidated signle or multiple instance no implied security, patching, or sla requirements on beefy server of i'm not sure there need ha or dr." it's bit open ended. i've given topics , questions think about.
