Powershell script and policy management performance

we running powershell version 2.0 script in job on sql 2008 sp2 - 10.0.4064.0(x86) instance, on windows server 2003 r2 sp2.   using a script run microsoft best practice policies against 1 sql 2000, 13 sql 2005, , 15 sql 2008 servers, using invoke-sqlcmd command.  the script looks through servers , policies.  sql 2000 server contains 7 databases, sql 2005 servers contain total of  601 databasea , sql 2008 server contains total of 274 databases.   when run script, takes 7 1/2 hours complete.   if run 2 custom policies check 1) job failures(which 1 server level check per server) , 2)databases backups (1 each database), runs little on hour.    there anyway speed these up?  hear others have experienced , alternate solutions have found.

you can deploy policy 2008 servers froom cms.  execute on target servers.
