SQL Server 2008 Express with tools Setup Failure


originally had installed sql server 2008 express, didn't have management studio included.  after research, found should uninstall sql 2008, install sql server 2008 express w/tools instead.  however, when first installation step 'new sql server standalone', error popup:

sadly, error doesn't exist anywhere online.  having hard time figuring out how resolve this.

this blog sreekar m has step step instructions remove sql express. sure backup registry before making changes. unfortunately, sql uninstall not job of removing sql machine.

SQL server replication error Cannot find the dbo or user defined function........
